Paint there is no way to protect the tree. Just get bulbs that do not break and anchor the tree to the wall somehow. Then give up. Maybe hang some cat toys on there too.

As for me on decorating. I love the beautiful stuff at Christmas however I have always had a lot on my plate. Time has always been the determining factor in how much I decorate. When my daughter was young I always put up a tree but often that was it. Now that I’m retired I have the time but there’s only us two to appreciate it so why bother. So I will no doubt put something up. Probably a small tree and a nativity.

I never had a problem with Shadow but a Christmas tree was old hat to her. No worries.
Hesitated with Hank Aaron. But I soon found out that that mild-mannered young man is well-behaved around Christmas trees. Lost 2 ornaments.
