It's been awhile since I shared a story about a strange happening, so here goes. This happened while I was in basic training for the USAR. We were on bivouac, and had been walking for a long time before we stopped to rest, and eat our C rations. There was a Hawaiian girl in my troop, and while we sat around resting, she fell asleep. This wasn't unusual, a lot of us were cat napping. But when the call came to get back into formation, she was unresponsive. I had been sitting hear her, and when she didn't respond, I called one of the drill sergeants. He began to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation; later he told us that she had swallowed her tongue! As I watched anxiously, I began to see a strange picture in my mind; a circle of people on a beach, at night. They were singing and appeared to be wearing clothing like ancient Hawaiians would. The singing was sad and beautiful and I feared that this girl was dying, and that these were her ancestors. Thankfully, she responded to the first aid and was revived. I never forgot this.
