I took Driver's Ed but my parents taught me the ropes. I learned quickly. Manual. Nearly driving into the ditch at the end of my street was the worst thing that nearly happened. Speed had gotten away from me. Needless to say, that's the first and only time that happened. Never found myself behind the wheel of anything other than a car or truck.

WHO TAUGHT YOU TO DRIVE?
A local driving instructor named Les. He was my instructor until I passed my test 2nd time around in 1989.

After leaving the Army in 1998, I was a CPO (Close Protection Officer) for 18 months and I had an EOD (Evasive, Offensive and Defensive) driving instructor named Lawrence Wright.

DID YOU TAKE DRIVER'S ED?
Nope.

DID YOU GROW UP DRIVING OTHER VEHICLES LIKE ATV'S, SCOOTERS OR EVEN TRACTORS?
Mainly junior motorbikes at a young age. Trail bikes and crossers. Took lessons and passed my actual motorcycle test in 1999.

After going into service, I was lucky enough to drive a Warrior AFV (a mini tank) for a couple of years, then an FV432 Mortar Vehicle for about a year before becoming a Specialist Weapons Operator. On an event organised by the forces, where personnel got to swap roles with each other for a few days, I got to drive the British Army's Challenger II main battle tank

DID YOU LEARN ON STICK SHIFT OR MANUAL?
I learned in a manual car. Have driven automatics occasionally since.

HOW FAST DID YOU LEARN?
Took me just under a year, with one lesson a week, to pass my test.

AND WHAT FUNNY THINGS HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE LEARNING OR FIRST TIME OUT ON YOUR OWN WITH THAT NEW LICENSE?
My father brought me a Mitsubishi Colt Estate as my first car. The day I passed my test, I took it out for a drive on my own and got a bit over-zealous with the accelerator in a car park. I hit a parked vehicle whilst turning into a spot.

I had been on the road on my own for 22 minutes after passing my test..........doh!

I didn't learn to drive until I was in my thirties, because there was plenty of public transportation. Then I moved out in the sticks and needed a car, so I paid for lessons; manual, because I never could master stick! I learned quickly! And no, I didn't have drivers ed. in school.

I started working at 15 and had to catch two trains to work for 2 years, 3hrs travelling 6 days a week :confounded:. In that time I saved up and bought a good panel van and got my licence as soon as I could at 17. The first week I had it I drove to Queensland, a 9 1/2 hour trip. I ended up backing into a moving car at the beach up there and my holiday was waiting for the panelbeater to finish, lol.

Sorry didn't answer the question, I taught myself to drive, probably bad idea, lol.

Dad taught me to drive, at a way too early age, on a '58 Plymouth. Three on the tree manual. I passed Driver's Ed in about ten minutes.
All the cars I drove when I first got my license were manuals. Fiat with a 4-speed, old Benz with another 3 on the tree. Only mom's Vista Cruiser was an automatic.
To this day I prefer manual transmissions. Current car has a six-speed MT, wife's car is automatic.
