WandS When you mention downhill skiing I thought of a really funny story. I was 16 and my brother was 2 years younger. We rode the Silver Streak to Denver.(That was the Amtrak from Chicago to LA.) Mom and Dad thought it would be a good idea for us to visit our Colorado cousins.
So I get together with my mid-20s ski bum cousins. The next thing you know I'm in the first bar that I ever got served in. We drank kamikazes. By the pitcher full.
And now it's time for downhill skiing. Now the only skiing my brother and I ever did was little slopes that could be found in the Midwest. But because we were related they figured it was genetic that we could ski like them.
And then I discovered what a double black diamond is.
Drinking and skiing are a fab mix.
Kinda a similar story Paint about wrong assumptions and skiing. I’m not very athletic and I have terrible balance. When I was 17, three friends who were all really good skiers took me on a trip with them. I’d never skied on snow before but had practices a few times before on grass. My friends all told me that they’d teach me; the reality is they dropped me off at the bunny slopes and left. I was so furious with feelings of betrayal. I turned that pain inwards and practiced very aggressively all day long. When they came to pick me up at the end of the day, I asked for them to take me to the top of the mountain. I feel off the chair lift reminding them of my novice level, but when we got to the top of the run, I launched off ahead of them...and gave them all a real surprise with my signifcant growth acquired without their help.
