Drinking and skiing are a fab mix.

Kinda a similar story Paint about wrong assumptions and skiing. I’m not very athletic and I have terrible balance. When I was 17, three friends who were all really good skiers took me on a trip with them. I’d never skied on snow before but had practices a few times before on grass. My friends all told me that they’d teach me; the reality is they dropped me off at the bunny slopes and left. I was so furious with feelings of betrayal. I turned that pain inwards and practiced very aggressively all day long. When they came to pick me up at the end of the day, I asked for them to take me to the top of the mountain. I feel off the chair lift reminding them of my novice level, but when we got to the top of the run, I launched off ahead of them...and gave them all a real surprise with my signifcant growth acquired without their help.

Thanks for the props up Lynn. One thing I tried to do from that point on was to find the strongest skier in any group I was with and push myself just a little to keep up with them so as to improve my skills incrementally. And of course I never let any lower level skilled skier feel that they couldn’t become incrementally better with just a little focus.

Skiing was especially hard and rewarding for me because I have slightly weaker knees (even after targeted leg exercises) and even weaker ankles. So skiing requires me to focus else I could really get hurt. And in the focus always comes a calming effect; even on a very crowded slope I’ve been able to Zen out.

Unfortunately I damaged my left knee playing aggressive volleyball making it impossible for me to ski the way I used to do.

I love volleyball and have played competitively. Not Olympic level, mind you. My team did win a Navy Base league championship one year.

I first learned the rules and proper hits while in college . . . and got college credits for it. I had to fill some non-Engineering credits. From that class, I loved to play the game.

Then you are part of my team 7. Now if Lynn and I can figure out how to have a PNF virtual potluck, maybe we can have a virtual volleyball game too.

I'd probably pick ice skating. I couldn't get enough of both ballet and ice skating when I was younger, so that would be it! I injured my left big toe once, stepping on a broken bottle while wearing thin soled shoes, and now I am permanently off balance. I think I damaged the tendon.

Yes, fun times indeed! Did you ever roller skate? I wasn't so good with that, got a bad sprain and never tried it again!
