the series battle star galactica....the entire plot was the antagonists (cylons) declared war on humanity. but they had an almost overpowering curiosity for religion, not that they needed it, but they wanted it, no matter how "illogical" it was for a digital mind..for their computer mind it was something that couldnt be processed rationally, so they were obsessed with understanding this part of humanity.......they couldnt die, their physical/biological bodies could be destroyed but they would just upload their consciousness to a new body lying in wait.......was a fairly good show that played off a popular sci-fi trope of the times

I think there may be more than one category of "men in black". Could be aliens or hybrids. I think most likely they are government agencies, and not necessarily from the same agency.
