Spell Check!

I now have to check the spell check to be sure it's not trying to correct my correct anglo-English spelling to American English! I blame Webster.
Back when I was working with the RN and a couple UK companies, they would send us documents and reports to review and comment on. My contracting specialist was a former middle school English teacher who still used a red pen/ink to make comments. She always insisted on the use of American spellings in all their documents....colour, defence, labour, manoeuvre, etc. were not acceptable.

I have trouble with automatic spell correction in web searches 'correcting' words which are real words, as they seem to be geared towards low vocabulary people. It bothers me. My parents didn't talk down to me as a kid and expected me to ask about unfamiliar words to better myself. I worry that mass media and AI is taking society in the other direction.

I've never tried Grammarly, is it smarter than typical spell check? I always have trouble with certain words that spell check appearantly doesn't understand, typically due to prefixes or suffixes. So words like Reorganization or Disfuntional might get flagged as misspelled even when they are not.

The one that really gets me is the auto correct. I really need to pay attention to what I just wrote because the auto correct just acts on its own. Sometimes it's minor things the changing which version of their, there or they're I'm wanting to one that doesn't fit. But other times it's compl different words, like Pits might get changed to Peaches. Just now the word But was changed to Bit, Word was changed to wort and when I typed in Grammarly it got changed to "Grammar lyrics".
I like it better than most programs. Seems to be less nonsense and more accurate overall, while giving you options of words you may want to use instead of simply changing them on you. Also yells at me for my constant use of : "....." which I ignore...lol

I'm with Ben with the ou instead of just o, I have to rewrite my childhood, lol.

Apart from myself, one thing that is annoying in Oz, or one of many, lol is they add an o to many male names, Johno, Tomo, Robbo or an a and z to female names. Shazza, Kazza. A funny show that highlights this is Housos, about life in Western Sydney's housing commission. The characters look exaggerated but they really are like this, lol.
