What do you use for your investigations? What would you suggest?

Most start out with an EMF meter, flashlight, and a recorder. Your biggest piece of equipment will be your knowledge of how to use those and understand how to rule out the mundane readings.

Bigger equipment used by some are REM pods and an SLS.

Would things like the Brown Scapular and Miraculous Medal be good deterrents to keep evil things from following you home? Or would it make your investigations harder by driving away entities?

I have always used a St. Benedict Medal, which is preferred by many in the field. St. Michael's Prayer and Medal many use to provide protection and a spiritual center when investigating as well.

The medals do no harm to benign spirits, who seem to have no problems with holy articles. Entities that wish to cause you harm or attach are repelled by them, but that does not mean they won't give it a try anyway. I always recommend you go into any investigation spiritually guided and guarded. You have no idea what you may run into.
