We had nearly six feet during a storm at the end of Dec 92. Nothing even close, since. Hardly any snow at all since I finally broke down and bought a snow blower three years ago, after shoveling by hand for 31 years.
But I feel for those folks. Took our neighborhood days to dig out. We all had 14-foot high snow mountains in our yards that didn't melt away until June.

My son predicts this winter might change that 3 year lack of...lol We'll see how accurate he is. Meanwhile:

Yes, those are good measures. Also, long underwear, and wearing a hat to keep heat in. I usually don't get very cold until temps are like they were last night. Then I borrow Mr. Garnet's aviator cap while watching television. With Sheena in my lap, I'm warm enough.
 
I found my heater shut off today. Started getting pretty cold in house and looked at blank t-stat. I thought oh no. Worst time ever. I pulled t-stat and replaced batteries rofl.
