Would Rye grass grew up there? It’s a winter grass that a lot of people down here PLANT it stays green you’re around, but it does really well in the winter.
Perennial rye is like a scaffolding grass to support bluegrass and fescue. Up here anyway.

There is a type of seed that has crazy deep roots and is great for soggy areas. I think it's some type of fescue.

Makes horses salivate, and can be an issue. Lots of that I hear in the south.
