That sound...

Trains. I grew up near tracks and live just close enough now. The whistle off in the distance and the rumble & clacking sound. It's like a lullaby at night.
The line isn't used much, so it's one train at night.
But, trains in the city gets on my nerves.

Some of the city streets in NJ were paved with bricks, and I loved the rumbling sound of the tires as we drove over them. The sound of a rotary phone being dialed, and the sound of coins being dropped in a pay phone.
Savannah's streets are brick or cobblestone through the many squares...they do indeed have a distinctive sound as cars pass over them.

We had a coal train that rumbled by the blue house. It took a bit to get used to, but other than that, it was dead quiet outside. I do not miss the footsteps being heard through the house.

the ice cream truck music...... the rumble/growl/ehhhhhhh sound of the city truck spraying DDT as the kids ran behind chasing it in a cloud of toxic fumes..... ahhhh youth in the 70's..........
Those things are all through this neighborhood in spring, summer and early fall. Love the soft serve ones ;bg2

wow, i havent seen one in years, and its surprising because i live a block from the city park, pool, track, and outdoor venue amphitheatre thingy..... but we have a food truck area with a lot of vendors every evening so i guess too much competition maybe..... i also havent seen a good old fashioned "roach coach" food truck in a long time..... now the food trucks are all fancy stuff with five course meals and cost a paycheck to eat off them....

I do love the sound of a train in the distance, especially late at night.
