Scientists have succeeded in enabling brain-to-brain communication between two people over the Internet.
Mind-reading technology has been going from strength to strength lately and now researchers at the University of Washington have taken things one step further by making it possible for one person to determine what someone else is thinking through a special brain to brain interface.

During the experiment one person ( the respondent ) wore a cap connected to a machine that can read brain activity while a second participant ( the inquirer ), who was located in a separate room, was presented with a series of possible options relating to what their partner was looking at.

When the inquirer asked a question to narrow down the identity of the object the respondent was able to provide a 'yes' or 'no' answer by concentrating on one of two LEDs on their computer screen.

The response was then communicated to the inquirer who could use it to help identify the object.

It might not be quite on par with the sort of telepathy that you typically see in science fiction films and TV shows but the research does represent a stepping stone towards a future where brain interfaces like this one could enable us to better communicate with our computers and even with each other.
