How to keep your kids safe at the bus stop

The 3 siblings killed in Indiana were not far from my area. However, the way to totally avoid this is what our school district did several years ago....the buses only pick up the children on the open door side of the bus. Which means our buses may go and turn around to come back for children who live on the opposite side of the street. This makes bus routes longer, but no child in our district ever crosses the road with this change.
