The witness seems to watch alot of tv to wee hours in morning. Sleep deprivation? Could be.

The first account sounds like a case of Palinopsia, a persistent afterimage. She was in the dark staring at a rectangle of light for presumably hours. Seeing a rectangle shape in the dark right after is no surprise. The sleepness nights and constant numbing of the mind through what could be the beginning stages of a streaming video addiction/dependency aren't helping either. This woman needs counseling and to redevelop healthy sleep patterns.
That second account could have some validity but we can't discount other factors like her emotional or mental state. On the other hand there are entities out there whom I believe target people based on them being in exactly this kind of emotional state.
