Thanks for the firsthand info on this topic. I have heard these stories before and having someone who was there confirm that they are credible means a lot. There are some really strange things in this world.

Definitely strange things in this world. When locals tell you something that sounds crazy or won't go to certain places even when you offer them life changing amounts of money. It's best to listen to their warnings just in case. In my situations they had nothing to gain other when we would try and hire a guide and 9 outta 10 times we couldn't get a guide either.
