Dimestore Memories

Son of a gun, Duke, those lots are different. I painted the lower level of the Sears store. They were really nice people. And every Sears Kmart back then had a top-notch manager.

But back then corporate was top down from the Sears Tower.:( And there were so many talented people at the ground level. They were stifled.

Storm:)

I miss places like that. The lunch counter was the best. I remember getting a grill cheese and a coke. Grandma used to by yarn abd craft stuff. I always wanted sone of the nuts and candy. It happened only on rare occasions. Getting to have lunch out was the treat.

Kresge, then Kmart, also sold cold submarine sandwiches; Bologna, ham, salami, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and mustard. I don't recall the regular price, but as closing time approached the price on those already made went down to three for a dollar. They were nothing special, just cold cuts and toppings, but a real treat for us as kids.
Those cold subs were really good for some reason.
