Pretty simple way to determine if a light is a Chinese lantern or a drone with pyrotechnics. Both will burn out, or "fizzle" as described here. It's a question of whether the light is seen to "turn on" in flight or if it's seen continuously illuminated as it rises. The former is a pyro drone, the latter a lantern.
 
I'm betting there were a lot of sightings last night. People wanted to celebrate so reports should be coming in from all over.

I thought they looked like the Chinese lanterns too. That was my first impression. They flicker light a flame and seem to be drifting at the same rate.
