That's really interesting, Jay. Gives it a whole new twist. And the fact it showed you presents is interesting as well. So....this one, whatever it was, was more benevolent. Most stories of shadow people are a feel of terror when they are seen.

Yeah I’ve heard nothing but fearful stories so maybe it wasn’t a shadow person.

You might also consider that this was astral projection...which can have the same feel of totally awake. If you were in astral form, then picking you up would be easy for it to do.
