COVID-19 Information updates

I don't know, and I'm actually trying to stay out of the politics on this as we are a no politics zone here. I realize the virus can cross over into this area, but my concern on this thread is simply to give information on the medical impact of the virus itself so that everyone has the information they need to survive it and know what is happening in the treatment and research areas of it.
I get it and this is a difficult issue. But there was not a single bit of political intent on my part. And If discussing the accuracy of information as it relates to a particular source is now political, then imho we have indeed fallen into darkness. I would consider such information as having paramount "medical impact". In any case, I don't wish to argue with you about the content of your site. However, I am curious as to what your suggestions are regarding the discussion of such information.

Excuse me?

Are you SURE this is where you want to go? Absolutely, 100%, SURE????

Such information is being discussed on many other sites. I would suggest you discuss it on those as I've made clear the intention of this thread. It is a valid discussion to have, just NOT on this site.

There's going to be more bad news like this for some time. But I think we've hit bottom. According to this CNBC article, along with other optimistic financial and medical news, Germany is making plans to rollback their lockdown. Given that with a significant number of cases and a death rate of just over 1%, I'm looking at that nation as a barometer that this is all under control and that we may be out of the lockdown phase within weeks.

I don't think the UK will peak for another 2 weeks yet. Still too may idiots walking the dog with the entire family or going shopping every day.

Hope Boris will make it. Bit harder to cut funding when they have saved your life. I still get the feeling more can be done by industry if only they were given some leadership.
Zerox and HP make laser photocopiers. These use high voltage ionisers to charge the rollers to transfer ink - but if they just fitted them into units with fans and filters they could make thousands of air purifiers for hospital wards and reduce the damage done to hospital staff.
Hoover, Miele, and about 10 other manufacturers make vacuum bags that are Hepa filters - and with the help of cardboard box manufacturers could stamp out particle masks capable of protecting frontline staff.
GE, Phillips and other lightbulb manufacturers could switch production of germicidal UV lamps into high gear, and commercial airlines could turn to freight to distribute these and other goods worldwide. This would make it easier to sterilise areas and equipment.
Tent ,manufacturers could provide pop-up solutions outside hospitals, or supply tents to areas of high population density to allow proper isolation facilities cheaply instead of 6 people living in one household to reduce spread.
Local youth groups could set up local home delivery of basic foods such as milk, bread and eggs for a set fee. Say $5 for one of each dropped outside your door.
If isolation is the key to reduce the spread - then why are there still so many people in the streets and in shops?

Maximum isolation is maximum reduction in spread. So why doesn't everyone isolate maximally? I think what is being observed is a spectrum of risk tolerance by the population. Where there is not maximal enforcement of isolation, then there will be those who are not isolated. And among those who do not isolate there will be those who will interact freely to the degree that conditions allow it. But why do we behave in such a fashion? I think it is because it is simply that we are wired that way. A given population will represent a spectrum of risk tolerance just as it might express a spectrum of eye or skin color.
