Morning folks. Got a question for y'all. It occurred to me that in just about every US movie or TV show when someone puts the kettle on it goes on a gas hob and whistles when it boils.

We haven't seen such a thing here since the 60's, electric kettles are it and have been since then. Do you use electric kettles there?

What exactly is an electric kettle ? A corded device; no stove required ? I don't use a kettle of any type. Electric coffee maker is my hot drink device of choice.

For coffee most ppl have coffee makers or kourig type machines with the little cup things.....lol......I still use the old type tea kettle to boil water for tea,.... I'm in the south and down here all tea is sweet.... And I meen sweet, like a cup of sugar per gallon of tea....lol.....so the water has to be boiling to mix the sugar completely.....and those are still used for camping and stuff also.....but other than those type situations we all are pretty modern over here also....lol.

My friend from London has already been scandalized by this, but more likely than not we heat the water in the microwave, then let the tea steep. I'm nearly 27 and our roommates have a teapot(kettle) that we set on our electric stove and this was the first time I've seen this. Then again, I grew up very poor and continue to be so, so an extra thing like a kettle is not a priority for us.
