Criminals could have reduced sentences if they agreed to have brain stimulation | Daily Mail Online

Criminals could have reduced sentences if they agree to electrical brain stimulation that MAKES them feel guilty, neuroscientist says
  • Convicted criminals could have years taken off their custodial sentences
  • Reduction would be conditional on them agreeing to have electrical stimulation
  • This is according to Dr Nick Davis from Manchester Metropolitan University
  • He says the tech is not quite ready, but could become widespread in the future
  • Brain stimulation has already been proven to change people’s moral choices

I almost did that back in 2001 or 2002 they put it on the table, I sometimes wonder if I did and just forgot. That's possible, there are many things from the past that have a hole in them and when I do a new resume or just an application for a new job I can never account for missing years... I lie and say I was self-employed doing w/e, that could explain a lot but I wouldn't know how to find out if I did.

You could look and feel guilty in court but doesn’t mean you’ll always be granted any kind of leniency. So why would this be any different?

Yea thats right test it on the criminals then devise a way to do it by targeting an individual on the street through the airwaves without there knowledge and yea lets explore ways to privatise it and make consumers purchase things by implanting the idea or this could be a great way to control the masses dangerous possibilities that are obviously of interest to some scientists thats where it begins.

It's a movie quote, to be certain, but that doesn't make it any less true:

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

[Jurassic Park]

It's also my mantra ...lol :) We are still children and we're playing with scientific bombs. One of these days one is going to go off and destroy us.

This makes me think of the Labotomies done on mental patients in in the past. I’m doubtful this would be effective.
