Similar thing happened to me in the 1970s. I was staying at an Inn called the Henley Arms in a little tiny village called Watford in Northamptonshire because I was doing some work locally for a few days. The Inn was about three or four hundred years old, but it was a nice cosy place. I normally sleep with the curtains slightly open as I don't like it to be completely dark. One night I woke up because I was really, really cold, despite it being summer, and there was a young lady stood between me and the window - outlined by the moonlight. It was real shock, and I shouted out, but she just stood there, bold as brass. That's when I became really terrified. I turned the light on, and as soon as it came on she disappeared. I got up and got dressed, no way I could spend another night in that room so I told the staff I wanted a smaller room, and they moved me. I later found out that there was actually a long and detailed history of a haunting at the Inn going back over a century. The spirit of a young lady. Locals told me that people had reported hearing mysterious footsteps, talking and giggling and things being moved, and lots of disturbed nights woken up in a similar way to what I had experienced.
