You can just imagine what 3rd world countries do. When I was a kid we lived near Parramatta River, it was so polluted the mullet would jump and land back into the black sludge and sink like it was quicksand. We would also swim in it but it took days to wash to oily stench off you, lol. It's cleaned up a lot now but you can't eat the fish from there. One of the factories dumping in the river back then was Union Carbide .
