Missing Fighter Jet

I keep reading that there was a "mishap" and the pilot ejected. There are lots of mishaps that can occur in a plane but typically a pilot will only eject if there is some catastrophic failure which make the plane unable to continue flight. A fighter pilot is not going to eject themselves from a functional aircraft.
mishap is usually the gov. word for human error....or an ooops moment......but i think only vtol aircraft have an auto eject system

Yes, the STO/VL F-35B has an auto-eject system. If it turns out this was an inadvertent ejection actuated by the auto-eject, there are going to be lot of USMC and RN pilots screaming, "We told you so!"

Thank you, Duke.
