mishap is usually the gov. word for human error....or an ooops moment......but i think only vtol aircraft have an auto eject system

Yes, the STO/VL F-35B has an auto-eject system. If it turns out this was an inadvertent ejection actuated by the auto-eject, there are going to be lot of USMC and RN pilots screaming, "We told you so!"

dang, how many versions of the f-35 are there??..... and is this version replacing the harrier fleet for the corps?
Three versions....land based (A model), STO/VL (B model), and carrier based (C model.) The B model is replacing the USMC's Harriers.
