It isn't out of the realm of possibility that something from outside of our solar system crashes into us. They chose their words carefully in the article by not implying a space craft but an object (meteor). Eventually one or both Voyager probes will smack into something. Same concept, different objects lol.

I can't figure out how something so small could be found on the bottom of the ocean and they could identify it.
