FedEx employee naps, is shipped with packages to Texas | Fox News

A FedEx Express hub worker fell asleep in Tennessee and woke up in Texas.

The shipping company's ground crew member, who was not identified, was loading cargo on to an aircraft at a Memphis airport Friday when he nodded off around 4 a.m., FOX34 reported.

The man woke up mid-flight and tried to alert the pilots by knocking on the cabin door. But the pilots wouldn't open up and communicated with the man via telephone. He was told to sit in a jump seat until the plane landed, Lubbock International Airport Executive Director Kelly Campbell said.

When the flight landed around 5:30 a.m., Lubbock police, the FBI and the Transportation Security Administration were notified of the accidental stowaway. He was questioned at the airport.

"The person was not arrested after police determined there was no criminal intent," a statement from the City of Lubbock said. "The employee was released to local FedEx officials. There was no impact to aircraft operations at Lubbock's airport."

Campbell called the Friday morning incident "very unusual."

FedEx spokesman Jim Masilak said in an emailed statement that there was never any danger to employees or cargo.

Debi, i work at the Memphis FedEx hub. The person that fell asleep on the plane got fired. Some of the uppers crew got fired and a teamleader got fired. They have a zero tolerance policy. We have a deplane sheet we have to sign after loading both of our outbound flights. I could tell you some horror stories about working there.

Thanks for the info, Void.

I wonder if FedEx treats they're employees as bad as the post office. I have a friend that had a nervous breakdown working for the us postal service. I feel bad for the guy.

Lynne, they treat us badly. I'm on a sunday - thursday shift. They make us come in on our fridays off sometimes. Like this friday i have to work because they expect a influx of freight which never comes. We have to work the friday before mother's day, the friday before valentines day, the friday before christmas and anytime the weather gets bad and they think they'll have call ins. They use us as extra teams, but the people that work monday - friday never have to come in on sundays and help us. If we don't get breaks they take the time out anyway, they work us through extreme cold weather. Example the hub in indianapolis in the winter if the temp falls below 0 they close down. Us we work through our entire 8 hour shift in the cold and they don't care. If we get freezing rain expect to be there at least 12 hours. Also which most people don't know in the last 5 years 4 people have died on the ramp. We were told by managers and senior managers never to speak of this outside of work. I knew one of the people that died. People think fedex is a great place to work. It's great if you are a manager or senior manager, be if you are like me you just get screwed.

Sorry I missed this post earlier Void! From what you describe here and on the next post this sounds like one rough way to make a living. Besides the physical aspect of it, the mental and emotional must get extremely bad at times for you. It's a shame that companies feel they can work employees into the ground ad expect them to give 100% afterwards.

well, Retail is worse...You have to work the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of any holiday weekend, plus your normal schedule. Do you get overtime-NO-they make you take long lunch breaks to keep you right at 40 hrs (except for the weeks where they only give you 38 hours to make up budgets. In reality, almost every job in any field has their pluses and minuses.

Good point, Noble. I was often forced to work shorter hours one week to compensate on the budget from the week before....and even split shifts with 4 hours off in between so it was 4 hours on, 4 hours off, then 4 hours back on. Like THAT worked well for me! Not.
