Oh yea a feature we are now missing. This might be a good idea for a new app. We need a slam feature.

From memory, I think the difference is that ours have two rings in close succession, and yours only had one...?

I am old enough to remember picking up the phone and other people were already talking!!
I think each number (during the party line era) had a different ring as well, but I was no more than 5 in the 70s.
That was weird to a child. This must have been in the late 70s as I was born in 75 and the party line was switched over in the 80s.

My favourite phone is this one (and I'm not even kidding!). As others have said, the old rotary phones are wonderfully simple and solid. I recently bought one and was thrilled to be able to chuck the horrible digital one away. I do still have a mobile as well, though maily for the camera.

My mom still has one on the wall in our old house. It works. But she also has four cordless phones that all work with the same number. Just in case she's not near the old phone when it rings.

No cell service here. Same landline as 40 years ago... same number... and STILL irritates me when it rings.
