Would you go Cyborg?

im not quite ready to full on chip implant, plugging in and interfacing or downloading data cyborg just yet, but in reality we are already there with heart valves, pacemakers, pins, lenses for eyesight or cataract repair, etc... and nobody questions those, so as time passes and things become more common I could see more people accepting this type of future. heck, we would probably already be there if insurance would pay for cosmetic procedures....lol

The things you mention in use are "replacement" parts, not enhancement parts. I think that going forward, we have to look at two different categories here. Replacement of what we have and artificial enhancement of what would be normal for a human.

I think most people would favor replacing a failed part, such as a knee or hip joint; giving them the ability that they once had. Implanting computers, replacing legs and arms with stronger man made limbs takes some thought, at least for me. I'm happy with the parts and abilities that I was born with. I have put off knee replacement for 20 years, but am seriously considering it when the world calms down a bit.

that is true, but it is also a very fine line there. if your eyesight is not perfect you can get lenses implanted that will make it perfect... while it is technically a replacement it is also an enhancement..( the DOD has actually made implants that will allow you to read a license plate at 100 yards.... now that is an enhancement...lol) and what is the real difference from waiting till you need a pacemaker and going ahead and getting the state of the art model eco2000 artificial heart now....lol... just an example of how the mentality will change possibly...…. and also there are some cosmetics that are waaaay beyond what I would call normal, haha.... but I do agree with what you are saying. just saying how thin that line is and how easily it can or will blur.

I would go there. I already have enough metal in my joint replacements to drive an airport metal detecter crazy. I might as well have some of the fun improvements to go along with them. Photographic memory and endless storage would be pretty nice. Improved processing speed might be nice too. If nothing else it would be fun at the casinos. I had an Uncle that was a card counter and went to Las Vegas every year and tapped them for 10 or 15 thousand dollars.

you know, that makes me think... obviously all your memories and such would be stored on "the cloud"... but just think of that possibility, one eye is capable of taking a "screen shot" anytime you choose or record video to be stored. boy, talk about a loss of privacy...lol..... sadly though the vegas idea will probably be cut out first thing, all casinos would most likely have a jamming signal to keep anyone from using any enhancements they may have.... just imagine how much this would actually change the world if all you had to do was pay for a program..... no more college, school, etc, everyone could have the same level of intelligence, with debt of course... but what a dull boring world that would be.

Debi I think you made the distinction well. A replacement part, a twerk here or there is no the same as becoming a Borg lol.

Thanks. I realize it can be a thin line, but it is a huge difference.
