What songs make you cry?

"Last Kiss" is really, really sad and it always moves me.

There are other but unfortunately they're in Italian, so it doesn't makes sense to post theme here.

Most songs make me cry. I think “Happy” made me cry the first few times I heard it. Music has some connection that seems to bypass my normal conscious filters.

Any hoot. I will offer up this one.

Editing to add context - this is a song about a late 19th century wife waiting for her husband to return from some business venture/adventure. Unfortunately, seems that neither of them are aware that he is dead...and, there with her.

Oh, I see the thread title has “songs” plural so I’ll add this one...

Editing to add some quick color to my submission. This is a song written as a tribute to a group of breast cancer survivors who took an expedition to climb a mountain together.

Go ahead and post! The feeling will still be there and we can look up and translate the lyrics if we have to!

Sure! :)
To be honest I think that, in the English translation, the songs lose a lot of their beauty. Listen to them with your heart, okay?

In Italy we had a very good singer-songwriter. Unfortunately, he never received the recognition he deserved, because he always talked about extremely serious subjects. He died in 1999.

This video has the English translation too, here it is:
"Sand Creek River

They have taken our hearts
under a dark blanket
Under a moon died young
we were sleeping without fear
Was a general of twenty years
blue eyes and the same jacket
Was a general of twenty years
son of a storm

There is a dollar silver
on the bottom of Sand Creek

Our warriors too far
on the track of bison
And that distant music
became ever stronger
I closed my eyes for three times
I found myself again here
I asked my grandfather
if this was just a dream
My grandfather said yes

Sometimes the fish sing
on the bottom of the Sand Creek

I dreamed so strong
that blood went out from my nose
The lightning in one ear
in the other paradise
Tears smaller
Tears largest
When the tree of snow
flourished of red stars

Now the children are asleep
in the bed of Sand Creek

When the sun rose the head
between the shoulders of the night
there were only dogs and smoke
and tends flipped
I shooted an arrow toward the sky
to make it breathe
I pulled an arrow in the wind
to make it bleed

The third arrow look for it
on the bottom of the Sand Creek

They are taken our hearts
under a dark blanket
Under a moon died young
we slept without fear
Was a general of twenty years
blue eyes and the same jacket
Was a general of twenty years
son of a storm
Now the children are asleep
on the bottom of Sand Creek"

"BALLAD OF THE HANGED

We all did die in anger
Swallowing our last voice,
Kicking out in the wind
We all saw the light fade away.

Our cry flooded the sun,
The air did in us tighten;
Words turned into crystals,
The last curse we did shout.

Before it was all over
The survivors did we remind
That the price was our life
For the evil we did in one hour.

Then we all slipp'd in the chill
Dying in trouble and in distress
And an old prayer did we say,
The prayer of the unpardoned.

He, who laughëd at our defeat,
At our shame, at the way we did die,
May he die by the same rope
Learning so how this knot is made.

He, who poured earth on our bones
And untroubled went his way home,
May he be buried with his face contorted
Early in a misty and gloomy morning.

The woman, who disguis'd with her smiles
The embarrassment she felt at our memory,
May she see ev'ry night on her face
The ravages of time passing by.

To ev'rybody do we bear a grudge
That smells of clotted blood,
What we then called pain and sorrow
Is a question left without an answer."

"Canticle of the Junkies

I fired God
I threw away a love
To build a void
In my soul and in my heart.

The words I say
Have no shape or tone anymore
The sounds now become
A dull lament.

While among the other naked ones
I crawl towards a fire
That illuminates the ghosts
Of this obscene game.

How will I tell my mother I am afraid?

Who will talk to me again
About bright tomorrows
In which the mute ones shall sing
And the boring ones shall stay silent.

When I again will listen to
The wind among the leaves
Whisper the silences
Gathered by the evening.

I can't see anything else but
Glass imps
Spying in front of me
Laughing at my back.

How will I tell my mother I am afraid?

Why haven't they made
Great rubbish bins
For the days that have been used
For these and other evenings.

And who, who will ever be
The bouncer of the sun
The one who, every day, pushes him
On the scene in the early hours.

And most of all who
Brought me into the world, and why
Here were I live my death
With horrendous anticipation.

How will I tell my mother I am afraid?

When the rent of this idiotic body
Will be expired
Then I will have my reward
Like a good mark.

I will be cited as a warning
To those who think it's delightful
To play ball
With your own brain.

Trying to throw it
Beyond the established limit
That someone traced
At the edge of infinity.

How will I tell my mother I am afraid?

You who listen, teach me
An alphabet which is
Different from that
Of my cowardice."

Much less dramatic, but still very sad, it's an indie pop contemporary song. I listened to it a lot when my beloved left for Australia...

"I Don't Exist

I'm thinking about you
As I never thought of you
And sincerely as I have never
Thought of anything else

And so another cold winter will pass
Then maybe with the summer I will warm up
I already know that it will not change a friggin thing
I don't exist for you

And it's useless for you to dry
My tears when I cry
And it's useless to hug me
Just to stay beside me
In any case, I for you
I don't exist
In any case, I for you
I don't exist
I don't exist

I'm dreaming of you
And honestly I never dreamed

of dreaming of anything else

And so another cold winter will pass
Then maybe with the summer I will warm up
I already know that it will not change a friggin thing
I don't exist for you

And it's useless for you to dry
My tears when I cry
And it's useless to hug me
Just to stay around me
In any case, I for you
I don't exist
In any case, I for you
I don't exist
I don't exist
I don't exist
I don't exist
I don't exist"
