What fun activity from your childhood has been completely ruined for kids today?
Baseball, in the summer time I see all the baseball diamonds empty... That is a huge sin if you ask me, when kids lose their interest in friendly competition such as the old national past time. The new national past time is political correctness and who knows what else because I gave up trying to figure out whats going on in the world it only seems to annoy people or gives them permission to take their frustrations out on you. So I guess baseball among a few other things have been ruined. I dont think parents should tell their children they can be anything they want if they set their minds to it because as we all have figured out you cant be president unless you have the most money and Santa Clause isn't allowed in front of Walmart anymore because the Walton Family owns everything and everyone and John Boy doesn't think Santa Clause is a good concept for children today and Bruce Jenner should have won the Nobel peace prize for winning the decathlon back in 1976 and made the box of Wheaties.
And what is going on with Almond milk? When did Almonds grow teets?
In Australia, most things like swings, slippery dips, monkey bars have been removed from a lot of parks in case kids hurt themselves and sue the councils.Much safer to wonder the streets and busy roads full of traffic and weirdo's.
I don't know but it tastes like sh--.
Jacks. You can't play Jacks with plastic Jacks. It's just stupid.
Having a special day/morning for watching cartoons. It only happened Saturday mornings when I was young. Mom and Dad could sleep in, the kids were happy with cartoons.
Yes, this is one I miss myself even now! lol I clearly remember we "had permission" on Saturday mornings to get up and fix our own breakfast cereal and sit in front of the TV on the floor with it while we watched cartoons. I realize you can now go and stream them at will or go to the cartoon channel, but it's just not the same! It's not "special" anymore!
Oh, and waiting to get together as a family to watch that movie of the week that you had to watch at that time to be part of all the conversation the next day about it at work or school. There was no "don't tell me...I have it recorded" thing. There was buzz around the water cooler or on the playground the next morning!
It's literally been decades since I've seen any kids going fishing. Maybe it's not considered "the done thing" anymore. Too unsophisticated for the modern era or whatnot.
Also there just isn't the interest in building fine scale models anymore. Every variety store used to have a few popular car or plane kits, and a basic Testors paint display. Even real model stores are getting few and far between.
I remember the mark the smaller ones made too. Now they nerfed the balls used for dodgeball.
At every opportunity leaving the house whether to play or go on errands we kicked a soccer ball with us never walking but running controlling the ball getting exercise and building control skills. This was mostly a solitary pursuit until other guys got out of the house and joined up culminating in a full on game of two teams. The girls hit the street with skipping ropes and other active games and then we'd all team up for combined active games, nobody played these games at a walking pace but full on running. Boy were we all fit.
So we had friends we saw face to face every day and interacted with, rainy days when we couldn't sneak out we built model planes together and a friend and I who's houses faced each other learned deaf sign language so we could chat from our bedrooms. Weekends as we got older were spent walking in the hills or fishing. My dog went everywhere with me.
Need I draw any comparisons with today's game console, phone or whatever tech reliance?
