I like combining common phrases because it makes people think they either misheard me or that I'm very confused.

"No sense beating a dead horse around the bush"

"We'll burn that bridge when we get to it"

"They're barking down the wrong rabbit hole"

I used to use

"The upper hand is now on the other foot"

And

"A rolling stone is worth 2 in the bush"

But in the early 90s these exact phrase mashups we're used in movies so people thought I was quoting these films as jokes. I'm not going to outright accuse some Hollywood screen writer of stealing my idea, but since I was living in Los Angeles and hanging out in Hollywood at the time I will imply that some screen writer may have over heard me saying something along those lines.
