I think that it is because dolls can house a real spirit that people are finding them creepy. I saw an episode of a paranormal show where this woman was experiencing all kinds of unpleasant paranormal events in her home. The investigator came to check it out, and this woman had hundreds of dolls all over the place! Apparently some of them had become new homes for wandering spirits.

I have been wondering if the fear of dolls is related to the Uncanny Valley phenomenon. This has been an issue digital artists have been struggling with, where trying to make a realistic CGI face or person makes it slightly creepy looking. And the more realistic they try to get the creepier it gets.

There's something in the human brain that can identify something that looks too human but isn't human. Most primal fears were needed at one point in time for human survival, so the fact that the Uncanny Valley exists makes me wonder what our ancestors were afraid of.

If you need something new, here ya go.
