Like UFOs, the bulk of USOs have conventional explanations...foreign subs, aquatic life, malfunctioning or improperly operated sonar/sensors, etc. It's the small percentage of USO that can't be explained that are intriguing. In the UFO world that's somewhere in the 5-10% range, probably similar for USOs.

Most people would be surprised at how often large sea animals like whales are detected and misidentified by military forces. During the Falklands War, the Brits attacked and killed a whale that had been misidentified as a submarine. At the time the RN was probably the best anti-submarine force in the world as defeating subs was their assigned specialized duty within NATO's naval structure.
