I've posted before on this one:

    More on missing researcher

Here's more follow-up and further details.

Authorities remain baffled by the bizarre disappearance of an occult-obsessed young man in Brazil last month, as strange new details concerning the case have emerged.

Bruno Borges vanished from the Brazilian town of Rio Branco on March 27th and his story soon generated worldwide headlines when a jaw-dropping video of his bedroom was revealed.

With the walls covered in cryptic writing, a giant statue of philosopher Giordano Bruno, and fourteen coded books left behind, Borges' bedroom and subsequent disappearance has captivated online sleuths since early this month.

Since that time, a handful of insights into the young man's remarkable and mystifying 'research' have begun to come to light.

Thales Vasconcelos, a childhood friend of Borges, told Brazilian media outlet Globo that he helped to encrypt one of the mysterious texts later found in the room.

According to him, Borges had developed the code and enlisted his friend to transcribe the books from Portuguese into a secret cipher.

Based on what he had read of the text, Vasconcelos recalled that Borges pondered questions such as what is the meaning of life and discussed how he had been given a 'mission' to write the books.

However his friend either did not share or does not know who or what exactly tasked Borges with this perceived mission as that key detail remains a mystery at this time.

It would appear that Vasconcelos is not the only person affiliated with Borges' work, but authorities have concluded that his other helpers have taken a vow of secrecy and, thus, have been no help to police.

Other odd details surrounding the case have also been reported by Brazilian media, including audio purportedly of Borges claiming that he could travel via astral projection.

Vasconcelos confirmed that Borges held such beliefs, telling Globo that "he said that he could project himself when he felt the need."

Investigators have managed to track down the answer to one mystery of the case when they located the artist responsible for the statue in Borges' room.

Yet even that lead turned out to be as odd as the rest of the story as the creator of the statue, Jorge Rivasplata, expressed the opinion that Borges was actually the reincarnation of the famed philosopher.

For now, authorities have called on Interpol for help in trying to locate the young man who they believe is still alive somewhere in Brazil, but could be in some kind of distress.

Meanwhile, thousands of fascinated followers of the case have taken to Facebook in an attempt to decipher Borges' works via a crowd-sourced effort.

Whether their code breaking attempts prove successful remains to be seen, but one almost suspects that the incredible amount of attention given to Borges' writings may be part of the reason why the young man disappeared.

That seems to be the reaction of his parents. They seem little worried.

Just an observation. That coding work, and the pictures of how that room was laid out w/ the statue and the books looks like high functioning shcizopeninia with the attention to detail and flair of an artist. Plus, I suspect this man comes from money. Mom & Dad know more; they saw it develop. This just didn't get reported. He has the $ to act out craziness in style. Plus, the police and Interpol are looking for him. Poor missing schizophrenics don't get that effort in Brazil.
I'm gonna apply at the FBI as a profiler. ;) Or better yet, get a supporting role on 'Criminal Minds.' I'll hang out at the food service.:D

    UPDATE:

New developments in the mysterious disappearance of an 'occult-obsessed' student in Brazil suggest that his vanishing may have actually been an elaborate hoax!

The story of Bruno Borges spawned worldwide headlines after the young man went missing in late March and footage revealed that his bedroom had been covered from floor to ceiling with cryptic text.

Subsequent news stories detailed how Borges had become obsessed with the occult and left behind 14 coded books prior to his disappearance.

Alien iconography found amongst his writings had some observers speculating that Borges had made contact with ETs or, perhaps, was silenced by the 'powers that be' due to his research.

However recent events now indicate that Borges' fate was likely far less sensational than that.

Last week, authorities in Brazil executed a search warrant at the home of his friend Marcelo Ferreira and recovered a pair of contracts which appear to shed damning new light on Borges' disappearance.

The contracts, one of which was taken to a notary by Borges on the day of his disappearance, details a plan for his books to be published and for a percentage of the proceeds to go to Ferreira and two other individuals.

When police searched one of their homes, they found some of Borges' furniture, which they believe had been taken there in order to allow his bedroom to be seen as barren in the footage which emerged after his disappearance.

Police subsequently charged Ferreira for lying to authorities since he claimed to have last seen Borges on March 26th, but actually had gone with him to the notary on the 27th.

They are also planning to soon question the friend who had taken possession of the missing man's furniture in the hopes of learning more about the circumstances by which he obtained the items.

Nonetheless, a Brazilian law enforcement official told the TV station Globo that "it is very conclusive that it was not a disappearance whatsoever, it was in fact a conscious plan of remoteness" and that the three people named in the contract may have had a hand in helping Borges vanish.

For their part, Borges' family expressed skepticism that the young man's disappearance was actually a marketing scheme.

That said, in a statement to the news outlet Veja, his mother also noted that the first book from her son will be published soon, which certainly raises suspicions surrounding their role in the case.

And, of course, despite the discovery of the contracts which call into question the veracity of Borges' vanishing, the young man is still missing and his whereabouts remain a mystery.

But with Brazilian authorities pressuring his friends and the alleged marketing plan apparently unraveling, it would not be too surprising if he suddenly emerges sometime soon or police manage to determine where he is currently located.
