NBC did a spinoff of "Columbo" originally entitled "Mrs Columbo." It llasted for less than 20 episodes over two seasons and had four different titles including "Kate Columbo," "Kate Loves a Mystery," and "Kate the Detective." By the end of the series, there was no connection to Columbo at all.

"Dragnet" begot "Adam-12," which spunoff "Emergency," and the short-lived "The DA." All four shows used a repertory company of veteran character actors who were longtime friends (and drinking/card playing buddies) of Jack Webb. Many of them later showed in the Webb produced series, "Project U.F.O." based on Project Blue Book.

In the fall we annually see new TV series appearing, but often "new" series have been spunoff from other series. For example PNF favorite "The Andy Griffith Show" was a spinoff from "The Danny Thomas Show."

Share with us spinoff shows you remember, as well as the shows they spunoff from. Which did you prefer and why?
Gomer Pyle, USMC was a spinoff from The Andy Griffith Show.

M*A*S*H > Trapper John, M.D. > After M*A*S*H
There was a fourth MASH spinoff, "W*A*L*T*E*R." The premise was Radar moved to St Louis after he got out of the Army and became a cop. It was horrendous. You can watch the pilot for the series on YouTube.

The most successful spinoff has to be "The Simpsons," the longest running series in the history of US TV. It was spunoff from short animated vignettes on the "Tracey Ullman Show."
