Cooking shows have become a staple in our household. In high-school, before there was ever a Food Network, I used to watch Yan Can Cook. My Mom was not a great cook, most meals she fed us growing up came from a drive-thru bag or a cardboard box in the freezer or pantry. So learning to cook for myself was a priority.
Later on when I had moved out and could pay for cable I discovered the original version of Iron Chef. Those guys encouraged me to experiment more with food. Then along came the Food Network and my favorite show, must see TV for years, was Alton Browns Good Eats. It perfectly captured my love of cooking and shows like Mythbusters. I still watch reruns of Good Eats today as well as a whole collection of YouTube cooking channels from Chef Jon's Food Wishes to Cowboy Kent Rollins, Sam the Cooking Guy to Binging With Babish.
And yes, I cook all manner of meals from these shows and others. Some have even become household regulars that I prepare. Sometimes my wife just points to the TV during a cooking competition show and asks "Can you make me that?" Which I've also managed to do successfully.
