Trivia on "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"

I actually knew much of that. J. Allen Hynek was well-known to me even before Close Encounters, as he was involved in Project Moonwatch, a citizen-science effort headed by Dr. Fred Whipple of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. I own a collection of Moonwatch telescopes used in the program. I have an old magazine cover with Whipple and Hynek on the cover. Life or Time, I should dig it out.

Interesting trivia. That movie seems so long ago now.
 
Terry Garr (played Ronnie Neary in the film) turns 78 in December, it was a long time ago! Interestingly, she credits her role on the Star Trek episode "Assignment Earth" with being her big break into the world of "real" acting jobs. I always liked her, terrific character actor.
