"The Way of the Cat" by Pamela Merritt. It's available free with a Kindle subscription on Amazon. According to this author, there are three types of cat personalities, with of course some blending in many cases. I have discovered that Sheena and Zoey are Gamma types, meaning that they will always be shy and cautious, unfortunately that is something they will never grow out of. Avalon, my departed kitty, was definitely an Alpha. Since I am once more on the quest for a third cat, this book will help my selection process enormously, since she gives advice on combining the different personalities together. According to her, an Alpha cat may cause trouble with two shy Gammas, but a Beta may be more easy going. Great reading!

I’ve had experience with at least two alphas before. One was more of a mix between the two, and the other was a full on alpha, but by far, he was the most affectionate I’d ever had.

GarnetSilver, that is very interesting. I have two cats females Lilly and Gloria they are also Gamma types. They are great with the family, but as soon as someone comes to the house, a new voice. You would never know I had cats. They stay hidden till they either hear the front door and new voice gone. They are going to be 12 years old and we adopted them from a shelter. They are sisters from the same litter.
I love learning new things every day. Thanks for sharing. ☺️

It's nice to meet another cat lover, Traci! I have loved kitties all my life, but this book explained a lot that I just couldn't figure out for myself. Glad you found it interesting!

I absolutely love animals, and yes, I actually learnt something new and interesting. I’ve had many cats and these two always hide when people come over. Once they get to know the voice and they are a safe voice, they will show themselves. Of course this is when they decide it to be safe. But I think if I hear one more time, oh you have cats. I’m gonna scream...lol. I have cat trees and cat toys around a kitty window shelf. Duh what do you think, I like to sit in the window, with my italian butt on that little shelf. I laugh every time. Lol
