The Ice Cream Truck

My childhood was spent mostly on the south side of San Diego. I remember that in the mid to late 1960s, there was a bakery that did home delivery similar to how dairies used to deliver milk products. The bakery also sold their own products and candy off the back of the truck.

As a then tiny carb monster, I especially loved their doughnuts. The driver would pull out a huge drawer from under the van’s floor and it was just littered with all these doughnuts of every kind. It was heavenly.
