'The Exorcist' TV series in the works at Fox | EW.com

Here’s some head-turning news: One of the scariest tales of all time is being made into a TV series at Fox. The broadcast network has given a pilot order to The Exorcist.

The drama is a modern reinvention of William Peter Blatty’s bestselling 1971 book, The Exorcist. The project is described as “a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil.”

Jeremy Slater (who wrote the 2015 flop Fantastic Four along with two others) is the writer-producer, with James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall on as executive producers.

The project manages to cross two recent trends: reboots of popular brands into TV shows, and a renewed interest in the practice of exorcism. Last year, the Destination America cable network drew plenty of buzz for its “first-ever live exorcism” special, Exorcism: Live! (though the program was centered around a supposedly possessed house instead of a possessed person). Also, there have even been reports of the Catholic Church boosting the number of exorcism-trained priests.

Released in 1973, the film adaptation of The Exorcist ranks as one of the 10 biggest box office hits of all time when its gross is adjusted for inflation.

I need to get me some cable because I'd watch this. Or does fox put shows on July the day after? I'm tv challenged so input welcomed.
