Holy Moley! That had to be horrifying! When I was in my early 20s I had an old car and one night on my way home from work my gas peddle stuck. (Today’s cars have different mechanisms). I tried kicking the peddle to unstick it and the throttle stuck wide open. I was speeding full throttle to a busy intersection with a red light with no way to stop. I froze but something spoke in my mind to put it in neutral and turn off the key. The back fire was terrifying but I was able to maintain control as the car came to a stop in the median just yards from the light. Almost immediately a police car pulled behind me and pushed me to the corner gas station. Help just as I needed it. I shudder to think how things could have turned out that night.
OK, we need to keep you and Duke away from pools.I nearly drowned when I was about ten. We went to spend some time with a family friend and they had a six foot pool outback and it was Summer so naturally, most of us hit the pool to cool down. I got a little too bold and ventured out too far when I slipped into the deeper section of the pool and frantically starting waving my arms above the surface of the water and calling for my dad even though nobody could hear me. Just when I felt myself slipping away and losing consciousness he pulled me back up. I never ventured out that far again. Thirty years later that's something I'll never forget.
And another one we keep out of the water!I had a drowning close call at 12. Body surfing off a point I was saved by a board rider but on the third time down my short life flashed before me, going backward to when I was an infant. Strangely the event felt very peaceful.
