Strange stuff we've sent to space

And you wonder why the nice Aliens lock their doors and roll up the windows when they fly by our planet ;)

"Strange/weird" probably isn't the word, but I'd have included astronaut Wally Shirra as a function of his penchant for off-the-wall practical jokes. Armstrong told us multiple stories about Shirra, the guy had a warped sense of humor.

It was Shirra who spoofed ground control about the UFO he sighted while aboard Gemini 6. He was actually describing "seeing" Santa Claus, but he did it so well it took everyone a while to figure out he was joking. Not even his capsule mate (Stafford?) knew he wasn't serious. Unbelievably there are ufologists today who still claim "Santa Claus" is NASAspeak for UFO, they have no clue about its origin.
