Spooky locations and their origins.

Here in Scotland we have quite a lot of places that could be considered haunted or at least a little spooky.

I used to live over the hill from "Gallows hill", but today there is just a small woodland at the top and is surrounded by fields.

In Aberdeen they built a block of flats on "Heading hill"- where they used to chop people's heads off. The axe and block is still in the Tolbooth Museum.

The Mercats cross is still on the mainstreet but was moved to the end of it when they widened the road. They used to nail debtors ears to it - then rip their heads away till they didn't have enough ear left to carry on.

Most villages have small cemeteries attached just outside them, but there are plenty of abandoned churches along the coast mostly in ruin.
