The idea was the premise of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The monolith was such an artifact as described by the author of the article. Kind of cool to see the idea going more mainstream.
One of my dad's hobbies was metal detecting. If he were alive today, he would volunteer to go to the moon in a space suit, and wander the surface with a metal detector and his little dandelion digger tool.
