    From the article:
" Robots designed to interact socially with humans are slowly becoming more and more common. They’re appearing as receptionists, tour guides, security guards, and porters. "

Question to PNF members: Has anyone encountered one ? I have not and I'm guessing my first will shock or amuse me, not sure which.

have not seen one in person, but the A.I for robo phone calls has gotten pretty good at human interaction.
my concern for this article is how will exercises like this or programs like this in robotics affect human emotion and sympathy / compassion in the future....if its easy to put down or harm a human shaped robot would it then be easier to harm a real human....slippery slope here.
its been said that before and during WW 2 that many soldiers wouldn't try to kill the enemy or wouldn't shoot to kill, after WW 2 the military switched to human silhouette targets and the kill ratio went up 70%....could this have that same affect on de humanizing actual people. some exercises and developments need to be thought through a little more I think. you know, what are the consequences further down the road kinda scenario.
Everytime you think we are advancing in humanity something comes along that throws us back 10 steps, programs and models like this could be one of those very things.

Good points paul. The last thing we need is to dehumanize society more.

Lately I've been paying my phone bill on an automated system. The robot understands human language a little too well. It's a little unnerving when I ended the phone call by telling the robot to have a nice day.
