Does a moment of residual hauntings have to be of a dead persons moment?
If energy is what we say it is, there are happy moments that we made in the time line of life, that can it also be stored as a loop in time? While we still are living?
I had a Native American friend once tell me, in his tradition, when they move out of a home, they would call out to their spirit and say it is time to go, come join them or him… he explained that their existence from the past to present needs to join them as they leave or else it will be stuck in that home… it made me think, can their living moment be stamped in time, that we would see it as a residual haunting?
Also, there was a paranormal series called “ghost labs”. Where they did an experiment with a painful memory being conducted to see if it gets recorded in time as a memory (a residual). They did the experiment and later that day, they had Evps of the guy submitted to the pain actually grunting in pain.. recorded as an EVP…is it possible???

Absolutely an event can stamp itself onto a location. Trauma and joy are strong emotions and we believe they can leave traces within the fabric. Now, not all 'hauntings' are residual. There has been documented intelligent hauntings that respond to direct questions or actions. It's hard to pinpoint a definitive answer to these things because again, we really don't know what they are or the mechanisms that manifest them. When we lived in the blue house, we found out two people previously died there. We would hear footsteps at random times and eventually escalated to my mother being touched by a cold hand while in bed. The footsteps could've been passed off as residual but, something unseen touching a living person, that adds an intelligent aspect to it. Was the activity the former residents still lingering about? Perhaps. Do we know for sure? No we don't. One night i woke up gasping for air. One of the people died in my bedroom so could that have been a residual effect from their death? Perhaps. Too many variables to know for certain. We just know they happen and we get tossed in the mix.

Good question. A residual haunting is basically just a recording. The exact conditions for what gets recorded and how a playback is triggered still remain a mystery though. However there is nothing saying that such a playback only occurs once the person in the recording has passed.

I heard of a case once where a woman moved back into her parents house to take care of one parent after the other had passed. She then stayed after both parents were gone as it was the home where she grew up. Not long after she started hearing noises and seeing shadows. She reached out to investigators who identified it as a residual haunting of a young girl. Describing the behavior brought back childhood memories for the woman of her doing the exact same things. They concluded that the residual haunt was her as a little girl and that she was essentially just haunting herself.

Stevedog , I haven’t had any experience in this but I believe it may be happening. I would love to visit one of the houses I used to live as a child. If we can pick up vibrations of someone else, can you imagine if we can pick up, not memory mind you, but our own past residual moment? This would be a great feeling, if you pick up the moments of the good times. And if you pick up the bad ones, learn from it and finally bury that sadness, if there is any… it would make a great evidence of the paranormal… or help a person with personal scars of their past…. If that’s possible…
