An interesting topic that doesnt get talked about enough. Extreme paranomral experiences that cause PTSD. I think this is more common than most people think. A non-human entity terrorized me for a decade. Once it was finally removed I was left in a puddle of emotions.
I feel that I suffer from PTSD due to these horrid paranomral experiences.

Here is a bit of info.....
PTSD is diagnosed after a person experiences symptoms for at least one month following a traumatic event. However symptoms may not appear until several months or even years later. The disorder is characterized by three main types of symptoms:

    • Re-experiencing the trauma through intrusive distressing recollections of the event, flashbacks, and nightmares.
    • Emotional numbness and avoidance of places, people, and activities that are reminders of the trauma.
    • Increased arousal such as difficulty sleeping and concentrating, feeling jumpy, and being easily irritated and angered.
I am a big beliver in counseling and what talk therapy can do. But, how would a counselor view someone who has gone through a paranormal experience and needs assitance processing thier PTSD. Are there open minded counselors out there?

Do you suffer from PTSD due to an extreme paranomral experince? How you deal?
It had been 18 months since the final removal and I find myself still struggling........

I haven’t been traumatized by the things I’ve experienced on the paranormal side of things, but some are violent enough to cause some symptoms of PTSD, that’s for sure. Have you been diagnosed with this?

There are most definitely open minded shrinks out there. I actually have one. She’s really open minded on things regarding the spirit realm and consciousness. It’s a real hit and miss kind of thing, just like any other therapist. Took me almost a decade to be honest.

I’m very sorry to hear Aces that when the main event was over the pain did not fade.

I’m uncertain of the best way to find a mental health professional who accepts the paranormal but I am confident they must exists. I’m a supposed computer nerd and I know that our world is so much more mystic and mysterious than what I can see recorded electronically on a tape or disk.

I’m going to offer another forum to you which has regional discussions and representations so that you might be able to find a resource or referral close to you. Not everyone will agree with me but one option might be Witchvox. That forum is large enough that surely someone there is or knows a pagan-friendly provider. It is one possible tactic I can offer.

All my confidence and strength to you Aces, WandS.

In today’s work force, there are now doctors, psychiatrists, police officers and even private investigators that not only believe in this, but specialize in it. They aren’t common but there are some specialists in these fields.

Aces, you might try talking to local clergy for a referral. You don't have to be a church member to ask about these things. Ask a priest. Most of the time they will believe your experience and be able to point you in the right direction. I can't remember your spiritual preference at the moment. Wicca's also have local clergy who can keep you within your community for easy access to someone local.

I also know there is a woman out there that specializes in this. I have to find her info, but she may be a resource if I can find her info for you.

    Hiya!

I know this is kind of a hard topic to discuss as it is difficult to help someone if you don't have medical training or are in the medical field but any suggestions are better than what I have found on my own.

Charleh, I havent been diagnosed offically because I don't trust that a counselor would believe my story if I shared it with them (cant put myself through that.) But, it is pretty obvious that PTSD is definalty apart of my world at the moment.

Wands, I will visit the forum you suggested. Thank You!!

Debi, I do not feel remotely comfortable discussing my story with a priest, not because I don't want to but because I would feel VERY awkard talking about it due to the fact that my story involves rape.......however if all else fails I would ask a priest for help if I have exhausted all other avenues. FYI, I do not follow any specific religion but i am open to assitance from religious people.
If you could find the info for for the women you metioned I would BE SO GRATEFUL!!!!!!

If anyone else comes up with an idea or resource please share.

    Thanks again, FRIENDS!!!!

No problem, and I will look. Aces, I do have the medical background, and we do have someone else here with a psych background. We'll do what we can to help you find help. I will look for the woman I mentioned. I know she's online and I just need to jog my memory on this.

Aces I totally see where you would have this. I think there are doctors that would treat your symptoms regardless if they believed the cause. The physical part of your expierences were real and could be addressed the same as any abuse. Have you attempted to get counseling ? The Dr has an obligation to keep your confidences.
