I have never been able to get into mediumship.
Not for lack of trying. I believe that the reason it does not work for me is my attitude to death and rebirth.
Deep down I cannot fathom reincarnation.
Once reborn would not the departed person become a new identity facing the issues of a new life?
Yet my departed parents have contacted me, once each.
For me it is a major conundrum
Perhaps this is why we can use some abilities not others?

I think the metaphysical abilities are like the seasons:-
The days of each season gradually move to their zenith and back down again.
I believe there are many graduations between each category of psychicness. Nothing is ever black or white but shades of grey.
Imagine an old fashion compass. There are be more categories than N, W,S,& E but my point is that abilities are like a compass not always true north but can be NW or NE and more to the point NNE etc. Unlike a compass I assume that categories themselves are fluid.

My take is a psychic can feel spirits where a medium sees and speaks to them. Both are radio stations but offer different music.
i think its just semantics and made up names that does nothing but muddy the water even further for those new to abilities by those who have no abilities but want to act like experts on the matter...( just to clarify though, i believe we all have the potential to develop said abilities but due to life, skepticism, religious beliefs, etc... most hit a wall along the way early on so later in life it just becomes a curiosity or hobby )..........learning on ones own or through the new age section of the local bookstore is a long rocky road.... if abilities surface or the curiosity is strong enough its best to find a reliable teacher or guide.... though that can be difficult also , but breaking away from the media and flavor of the hour is the first thing one should do...........

Vocal, I too struggle with the idea of reincarnation too. I am open minded, but I lean more to the idea of some people being able to "tune in to" someone else's nonlocal consciousness. Of course, there may be more than one thing happening both could be true.
As for the difference between Mediumship and Psychics, I think the word physic tends to group all paranormal abilities together, where Mediumship is someone who allows the dead to speak "through" them. So, Mediums are Psychics, but not all Psychics are Mediums.
