Possible Thunderbird Explanation??

According to the article it wasn't very aerodynamically gifted, it's doubtful it would have been able to grab prey of any appreciable size on the fly and fly away with it. Also would have been impossible for it to clutch prey it killed or found on the ground in its talon and fly away. Both of these traits have been attributed to thunderbirds.

I'm guessing this rascal fed primarily on carrion, or small, lightweight prey it could have killed and carried away in its beak.
