That's a horrible thought! I don't think I have any books that old around, thankfully.

While i was searching a bunch of antique places up in PA, i almost bought a very old oil painting from the late 1800's. Very odd and slightly creepy painting : Gnarled trees next to a winding road with a horse drawn carriage in the background. Not an old book but same period.

Possibly the same practices were used on paintings, too!

I have a couple of old dog books from that era, green too .

I have som very old books. I think they are early 1900, brown covers. This is the first I’ve heard of this. I am always drawn to antique books. Good to know to look out and wear gloves if I find a really old one.

If I didn't like you I'd leave them to you mate, lol. They are interesting though, with home remedies and you can see how most of the breeds have changed since the 1880's.
